Lipid metabolism

Lipid metabolism is a complex network which involves hundreds of proteins and several subcelullar compartments, including specific oil bodies or lipid droplets.

In algae the de novo synthesis of fatty acids occurs primarily in the chloroplasts. The produced fatty acids are precursors for both membrane lipid and storage lipid syntheses.

In PhytcoGenetics we are working on improving understanding of triacylglycerides metabolism for a inteligence-led manipulation of these pathways, through overexpression or silencing of enzymes involved in last steps of the pathway.
